Barry University proudly recognized the exceptional achievements of two distinguished Sport & Exercise Sciences (SES) graduates, Lia Larramendi Mirabal and Hinata Sakamoto, who were honored at the Honors and Dean Awards Ceremony for their outstanding academic excellence, leadership, and service to the university community.
Lia Larramendi Mirabal, who earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology with a specialization in Rehabilitation, received a prestigious student leadership award in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the Barry University community. Throughout her academic career, Lia consistently performed at the highest level, ranking among the top students in her cohort while maintaining a deep commitment to scholarship and professional development.
Lia’s academic excellence is further demonstrated through her active engagement in research, including presentations at regional and national American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) conferences—an accomplishment that reflects her dedication to advancing the field of sport and exercise science.
In addition to her academic success, Lia distinguished herself as an exceptional leader. She served as President of both the Pre-Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy Club and the Exercise Science Student Association (ESSA), where she fostered student engagement, organized impactful initiatives, and strengthened connections across the SES community.


Hinata Sakamoto, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sport Sciences, along with a minor in Psychology and a specialization in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology, was selected as the recipient of the Undergraduate Dean’s Award. This recognition honors students who exemplify the highest levels of academic achievement, leadership, and dedication to their field.
Hinata maintained an exceptional academic record, graduating with a 3.788 GPA while consistently exceeding expectations in her coursework. Her strong commitment to scholarship is reflected in her active involvement in research, including her work with the Bridge Research Group, where she demonstrated intellectual curiosity and initiative.
Beyond the classroom, Hinata has been recognized for her outstanding growth as a leader and her unwavering commitment to the SES community. She played an integral role in research activities, departmental events, and student engagement initiatives, and was known for her reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to support others. As an active member of the Exercise Science student organization, she contributed meaningfully to community outreach and program development.
The SES programs join in celebrating and congratulating Lia Larramendi Mirabal and Hinata Sakamoto on their well-deserved recognition and take great pride in their achievements and continued success.
