On Good Friday, more than 200 volunteers came together at The Caring Place at Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers to serve nearly 2,000 individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger. While meals and essential resources were at the heart of the outreach, Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine made a memorable contribution to the cause.
Inspired by the example of Jesus Christ washing the feet of his disciples, volunteers from the School washed the feet of women and men in need. This simple yet deeply meaningful act restored dignity, provided care, and created moments of human connection often missing for those living on the streets.
Their efforts were part of a larger outreach that included serving a Thanksgiving-style meal, distributing clothing and hygiene items, and offering showers to guests in Miami. The impact of this event extended far beyond the day. Intake teams encouraged individuals to take the next step toward stability, with nearly 40 men and women choosing to enter life-changing programs. One participant, Marcus, shared, “I came to outreach just looking for a meal, but I found something greater, hope.”
Attendees gathered at the Miami Center for a Good Friday message from Manuel Ramos, followed by an uplifting performance from the Miami Sound Space Choir. Residents also brought the story of resurrection to life through a special theatrical presentation which created space for a powerful moment of reflection and hope.
