Barry University is expanding academic programs and hands-on opportunities to help prepare students for an evolving workforce.

Artificial intelligence is a growing part of that effort. Barry recently introduced a university-wide AI certificate open to students across disciplines, covering AI fundamentals, responsible use and practical applications. AI is also being incorporated into fields including nursing, education, marketing, finance, social work and public administration.

“Every student, regardless of their major, should graduate prepared to use AI responsibly and effectively,” said Barry University President Mike Allen.

AI opportunities extend to high school students through the “AI for Good” dual-enrollment course. Barry has also introduced Adrian, an AI-powered student success assistant that helps students with questions about financial aid, housing and registration and can connect them with a Barry employee when additional support is needed.

Barry is also growing programs that address critical workforce needs. The Academy of Emergency Services has experienced significant enrollment growth, while expanded high school partnerships are creating new pathways into careers as EMTs, paramedics and other emergency services professionals. The university continues to invest in health care education as demand for nurses and other medical professionals grows across Florida.

The School of Mental Health and Social Work is also bringing together programs in social work, clinical psychology, counseling and school psychology to prepare more professionals for careers addressing the growing need for mental health services.

Together, these efforts and more reflect Barry University’s commitment to preparing students for what comes next – equipping them with practical skills, real-world experience and the confidence to make an impact in their chosen fields.
