Dicarlo Davis did not have to look far to find an opportunity to put his Marine Biology degree to work.

After graduating from Barry University this spring, Davis returned home to The Bahamas and worked for Atlantis through the Talent Integration + Development Experience (TIDE) program. What followed was a summer filled with hands-on experiences that brought his studies to life.

Davis joined the Marine & Water Park Operations team and worked alongside aquarists who care for more than 50,000 aquatic animals at Atlantis. He learned how to monitor the animals and maintain their environments. His work also took him into the water and into the chemistry lab for water quality testing.

One of his most memorable moments came when baby stingrays hatched in one of the aquatic habitats. Davis helped move them to the fish hospital where they could be closely monitored and cared for.

His experience continued at Dolphin Cay, where Davis cared for dolphins and sea lions. He learned more about their daily care and took part in feeding, monitoring and training.

He also had the opportunity to share his knowledge with resort guests. Talking about marine life and sharing his enthusiasm with others became another meaningful part of his time at Atlantis and Dolphin Cay.

For Davis, the summer was a chance to put his Barry education into action. His Marine Biology studies gave him a strong foundation in animal life and deepened his understanding of marine species. More importantly, his time at Atlantis solidified his desire to become a steward of marine life and build a career focused on protecting the animals and environments he cares about.
