The women’s indoor, women’s beach, and men’s indoor volleyball teams have each earned the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, making Barry University one of only four universities across all of collegiate volleyball to receive the honor for all three programs.

Barry was the only NCAA Division II institution to achieve the trifecta, joining Division I programs Pepperdine University, Stanford University, and University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in earning recognition across three volleyball teams.

The achievement marks the second consecutive year that all three Buccaneers volleyball programs have received AVCA Team Academic Award honors.

The AVCA Team Academic Award recognizes teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. Barry’s volleyball teams exceeded that standard, with women’s beach volleyball leading the way with a 3.668 GPA, followed by women’s indoor volleyball with a 3.478 GPA and men’s indoor volleyball with a 3.431 GPA.

Student-athletes Petra Brkicic and Diego Alvarez also achieved a remarkable academic milestone, maintaining perfect 4.0 GPAs throughout the entire 2025-26 academic year.

This national recognition highlights the dedication of BarryU Athletics and all student-athletes, who continue to balance the demands of collegiate competition with a commitment to academic success.
