Barry University PhD in Nursing student Dr. Danilo Lovinaria has earned the prestigious Henry B. Spencer Scholarship from Nurses Educational Funds (NEF) for the 2026–2027 academic year, recognizing his leadership and contributions to the nursing profession.

A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), educator, and healthcare leader, Lovinaria currently serves as a senior CRNA at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and has held faculty and leadership positions at institutions including the University of Minnesota, Johns Hopkins University, and St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Lovinaria was inspired to pursue nursing through a commitment to serving vulnerable and underrepresented populations, particularly immigrants and veterans. Today, his work spans clinical practice, research, education, and mentorship, with a focus on improving healthcare outcomes and expanding opportunities for future nursing professionals.

As a current PhD student at Barry University, Lovinaria is advancing research in implementation science, simulation and global nurse anesthesia workforce development. He is also the founding president of the Filipino American Nurse Anesthesiology Society and has led initiatives that support aspiring nurse anesthetists and critical care nurses in both the United States and the Philippines.

The Henry B. Spencer Scholarship will help support Lovinaria’s doctoral studies and future research efforts. He is one of just 34 graduate nursing scholars selected nationwide by NEF for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Through his leadership, research, and commitment to service, Lovinaria continues to embody Barry University’s mission of advancing knowledge and making a meaningful impact on communities around the world.
