As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the workforce, Barry University is taking a proactive approach to ensure its students are ahead of the curve. With growing concerns that AI is replacing many entry-level tasks, Barry is equipping students with the skills needed to adapt, think critically, and work alongside emerging technologies.

At the core of this effort is a university-wide commitment to AI education. Barry University’s Provost, Dr. Pablo Ortiz shared that all undergraduate students are required to complete two AI-focused courses: one centered on foundational knowledge and the other on ethical application. This ensures that regardless of major, every student graduates with a strong understanding of how to use AI responsibly and effectively.

Barry has embedded hands-on, real-world experience into the curriculum. Students have opportunities to work with actual companies through the AI Center and DX Lab using AI tools that then translate directly to the workplace. “Providing them with hands-on experience can translate to a meaningful career pathway,” said Dr. Bogdon Daraban, Dean of the School of Business and Public Administration.

The university also emphasizes the importance of evaluating AI outputs. Students are trained not only to leverage AI for productivity but also to question results, identify bias, and ensure accuracy. This critical thinking component is key in a world where AI is powerful, but not infallible.

By integrating AI across disciplines and focusing on both technical skills and ethical awareness, Barry University is preparing students to confidently navigate a rapidly evolving job market and to lead within it.
