Barry University continues to make meaningful strides in community engagement, recently earning recognition in the Miami Herald following a powerful Miami PACT event held on April 13, 2026. The gathering brought together more than 800 attendees for an interfaith, social justice-focused assembly aimed at addressing some of South Florida’s most pressing issues.
Barry’s Integral Ecology Coordinator, Madeline Maynard played a prominent role in the event and was featured in the Miami Herald’s coverage. She was photographed alongside Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and several city commissioners, highlighting Barry’s active presence in regional advocacy efforts. Her participation reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to advancing social justice and environmental stewardship in alignment with its mission.
Miami PACT, the largest interfaith direct-action organization in South Florida, is one of Barry’s Laudato Si’ community partners. This collaboration has created impactful opportunities for student involvement, particularly within the Honors Program. Throughout the academic year, Honors students have worked closely with PACT to support initiatives focused on affordable housing and expanding access to mental health services.
One of the most notable student contributions was the complete redesign of PACT’s website. During Monday’s event, these students addressed the audience and officially announced the launch of the new website which marked a proud moment of student achievement and community partnership.
