On Saturday, October 25th, 2025, Life Sciences South Florida hosted the 12th Annual LSSF STEM Undergraduate Research Symposium at the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation.

The symposium hosted 230 attendees, 100 undergraduate research presentations, 38 subject expert judges, and six speakers. It was a true testament to the fantastic effort in the life sciences space occurring in South Florida.

Several Barry University students from across the science disciplines presented research posters and oral presentations. Barry University’s own Shadé Parkes, a senior Clinical Laboratory Sciences major, won 3rd place in the research poster presentation category for her poster entitled “Rapid detection of penicillin binding protein 2a in coagulase negative Staphylococcus species”. Shade’s faculty mentor on this project is Assistant Professor of CLS, Dr. Inshan Ali.

Barry University’s presence at the LSSF Undergraduate Research Symposium underscores the university’s dedication and strong involvement in promoting exploration and student-centered research and scholarship.
