At Barry University, the Theatre Program is thriving—growing from just 11 to 36 majors in three years. Much of this momentum comes from a strong commitment to student success, where faculty listen closely to student feedback and adapt the curriculum to match the demands of today’s creative industry.

Assistant Professor of Theatre Stephen Kaiser plays a key role in this transformation. Bringing both professional acting experience and a passion for teaching, he helps bridge the gap between academic learning and the realities of the entertainment world. Students benefit from his ability to connect classroom lessons with practical skills they can apply on stage, on screen, and in a wide range of creative careers.

Guided by the program’s “learn by doing” motto, Kaiser works alongside colleague Elena Maria Garcia to create an environment where students gain hands-on experience, confidence, and a strong artistic foundation. This approach ensures Barry students are prepared not only to perform but also to thrive in today’s fast-changing industry.

Before joining Barry in 2022, Stephen built an impressive résumé with many of South Florida’s top theatre companies, including Island City Stage, The “M” Ensemble, New City Players, Juggerknot Theatre Company, Theatre Lab, and more. He also found success in television, appearing on The Glades (A&E) and playing “Iggy” in seasons one and two of the STARZ series Magic City.

Stephen’s commercial work has brought him both national and international visibility, with recent campaigns for Michelob ULTRA (alongside Lionel Messi, Jimmy Butler, and Canelo Álvarez), Lay’s, PNC Bank, LIV Golf, and Despegar/Decolar featuring Shakira, many airing during the Super Bowl.

As both an educator and working actor, Stephen bridges the gap between the classroom and the entertainment industry, giving students practical tools to prepare for careers on stage, on screen, and beyond.
