In a world where representation matters, Dr. Michael Woodward Jr. is a passionate educator. He is also a prolific children’s author from Miami. He is dedicated to ensuring that every child sees themselves as heroes. He wants them to see themselves as the heroes of their own stories.

A graduate of Florida A&M University, The University of Nevada Las Vegas, and Barry University, Dr. Woodward recently earned his PhD in Education, achieving the remarkable milestone of 31 self-publications. He was a former elementary school teacher. He is now a professor at Barry University. He recognized early in his teaching career the lack of diverse narratives for children of color. Responding to this critical need, he started a journey of storytelling. This journey has resulted in over 30 published works. These works resonate deeply with children, educators, and parents alike.

Among his most celebrated books are “Young King” and “Young Queen.” These are beautifully illustrated stories. They remind young readers of their inherent royalty and greatness. These books emphasize positive self-image and empowerment, especially for children who rarely see themselves represented in literature.

Dr. Woodward’s flagship character, King Monte, features prominently in stories like “King Monte: Are You My P.E. Teacher?” and “King Monte: The Lost Tiger’s Eye.” These narratives explore themes of identity, perseverance, and mentorship, providing relatable role models for young black and brown readers.

His profound story, “The Talk: Conversations Between A Black Father and His Son,” courageously addresses crucial conversations. It helps families navigate challenging societal issues with sensitivity and wisdom.

Beyond storytelling, Dr. Woodward’s mission extends to educational resources like activity workbooks. These resources include bilingual editions that enrich the learning experience. They promote both literacy and cultural understanding.
