Jamie Cutino, OTR/L, a proud Barry University graduate, has transformed her journey into an inspiring narrative of resilience and success. Her impact in the neurodivergent and leadership space is profound, and her trajectory from student to global speaker is nothing short of extraordinary.
A Chance Taken, A Life Changed
When asked about the pivotal moments at Barry University that shaped her professional path, Jamie recalls a crucial decision by the university. “What honestly made the most impact is simply seeing that Barry University was willing to take a chance on me,” she says. Despite a GPA that didn’t meet the typical requirements, Jamie’s determination and passion shone through.
“I applied to every school where I thought I MIGHT have a chance of getting accepted,” she shares. A last-minute application to Barry University, driven by a gut feeling, led to an interview and eventually a place in the Occupational Therapy program. “I PROMISE you that none of them will outwork me!” she assured Dr. Chan and Dr. Greg during her interview, a promise she undoubtedly fulfilled.
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
Jamie emphasizes that imposter syndrome is a challenge that never entirely disappears but must be continually confronted. “Figuring out how to go after your dreams despite imposter syndrome is where success lies,” she advises. Her education at Barry University, culminating in the designation of OTR/L, provided her with the confidence to pursue her dreams. This newfound confidence propelled her to deliver TED Talks, secure a six-figure job right out of graduate school, and establish a successful ADHD coaching and speaking business.
Becoming a Thought Leader and TED Speaker
Jamie’s inspiration to become a thought leader and TED Speaker in the neurodivergent and leadership space stems from her own experiences. “I’ve noticed that oftentimes, we teach on the very things we needed earlier in life,” she reflects. Her work is driven by a deep sense of duty to show others that their dreams are attainable.
“I talk about my story and do what I do because I have experienced first-hand what it feels like to go from hopeless to accomplishing what once felt impossible,” Jamie says. Her candid sharing of her journey, including the hardships and triumphs, aims to inspire others to believe in their potential and strive for their dreams.
Global Influence Through Authentic Connection
Jamie’s ability to speak on global stages and influence others is rooted in her genuine love of human connection and her diverse experiences. Her approach is one of empathy, guidance, and relentless encouragement. By sharing not just her successes but also her many “messy bloopers,” Jamie creates a relatable and inspiring narrative. Her journey exemplifies the power of resilience and the impact of never giving up.
Future Goals in the Neurodivergent and Leadership Space
Looking ahead, Jamie is focused on expanding her influence and reaching more people with her message. “I’m currently writing a book, speaking at universities, and coaching women with ADHD,” she shares. Her goals are always centered around creating the greatest impact possible.
Jamie Cutino’s story is a powerful reminder that taking a chance on someone can change their life, and that overcoming adversity can lead to incredible achievements. Barry University is proud to have been a part of her journey and excited to see the continued impact she will make in the neurodivergent and leadership space.
We look forward to hearing Jamie speak at our upcoming event and are inspired by her commitment to empowering others to overcome their own challenges and achieve their dreams.
