Political Science Professor, Dr. Sean Foreman, Releases Seventh Co-Edited Book

Dr. Sean Foreman’s seventh co-edited book, The Roads to Congress 2022 was published by Palgrave Macmillan Press in December 2023. Dr. Foreman has been the lead editor of The Roads to Congress series since 2010. For this edition, he passed top billing to colleague, Dr. Walter Clark Wilson, of UT-San Antonio, who expanded the scope of the study, while Foreman remained as the corresponding editor with the publisher. They also collaborate with Dr. Marcia Godwin, from University of LaVerne in California.  The 18 chapters in the book analyze both local and national House and Senate campaigns in the 2022 midterm elections to reveal how distinctive campaign dynamics have a collective national impact.

For this edition, Imani McClammy, a federal work study student, provided research assistance. Imani studies Political Science with a minor in Peace Studies and is co-chair of Barry’s Campus Democracy Project. Dr. Foreman mentioned Imani in the Acknowledgements section of the book.

“I would like to express my appreciation for Dr. Foreman, who trusted me to be his research assistant for the past 2.5 years, Imani said. “During this time, I gained valuable research experience and knowledge in the field of politics. It was an honor to see my contributions as a research assistant acknowledged in The Roads to Congress book”

Dr. Foreman, who serves as Secretary of the Florida Political Science Association, wrote Chapter 1 “The 2022 Midterm Elections: A Murky Clear View of Congress’ Future,” and co-authored Chapter 17 “Pennsylvania U.S. Senate Race: John Fetterman v. Mehmet Oz — The Keystone of the Senate Democratic Majority,” with his brother, Chris Foreman, a journalist from Pennsylvania.

More about the book: In an era where the global pandemic lingered, inflation hit its highest rate in two generations, Wall Street faced its first bear market in more than a decade, war among developed nations returned to the international stage, and efforts by a former President to maintain his grip on a party that lost the 2020 popular vote by 9 million proved largely successful, the story is clearly more complicated. The 2022 midterms thus arrive on the heels of unprecedented developments for democracy in America. The Roads to Congress 2022 provides an essential guide to understanding these developments, with thematic chapters authored by more than thirty experts in campaigns and elections that explore the evolving state of party politics, electoral governance, redistricting, participation and representation, and profile the key races of the season. https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-42749-7
