Spring 2024

Message from the Dean

Welcome to the next edition of the InStride Newsletter. I am pleased to report that BUSPM successfully filled the Class of 2027 with 61 new podiatry students and 3 returning individuals for a total of 64 students. We are working very hard in recruiting for the Class of 2028. The school will be participating in the AACPM initiative “Feet on the Street” to raise awareness about a career in Podiatric Medicine by interfacing with students and advisors from potential feeder colleges and universities around the country. The Accreditation Committee in conjunction with the faculty and staff are working diligently to complete the Self-Study Report in preparation for our Re-accreditation visit the first week in June 2024.

It is my honor to inform you that student doctor Sheena Cherukara was a recipient of the Dr. Michael Stone Award, presented at the most recent ACFAS Conference held in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, we had a very successful alumni meet and greet at the recent SAM 2024 conference held in Orlando, Florida.

Good news… The annual pass rate on the APMLE Part I Board Exam was 85.5% for the Class of 2025 and 100% pass rate on the APMLE Part II Board Exam for the Class of 2024!

We have been successful in receiving gifts in-kind from various vendors. Our most recent acquisition is 3 PADNet devices one for each clinic, thanks to John Romans, CEO of Biomedix.

The Dr. Charles C. Southerland Yucatan Children’s Project is in full swing, and many patients have had the benefits of podiatric evaluations and surgical treatments. There are plans for an event to celebrate the anniversary of the Dr. Charles Southerland Yucatan Children’s Project program and an annual seminar entitled ‘The Yucatan Experience’. Fundraising efforts remain ongoing to ensure sustainability.

The School of Podiatric Medicine remains strong and solvent. We would love to hear from you with comments and suggestions regarding the newsletter. Please let us know if you have any information you would like to share with other alumni, faculty, and students.

Sincerely,

Rob
