Message from the Dean

Welcome to another edition of InStride Newsletter.

Although the summer is usually a time for vacations and reflection, the School of Podiatric Medicine has been a beehive of activity. Your team has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the Strategic Plan and beginning work on the requirements for our Accreditation visit next June. The Yucatan Project is in full swing and we have added additional mission trips to the Bahamas. The first commenced March 6-10 and was led by Dr Shanika Hill, and a team of clinical faculty and students; over 1000 patients were evaluated.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Valentina Clinton, a third-year student at BUSPM, has been awarded the 2023 APMA/PICA Full-Tuition Scholarship. She was selected from a pool of nine final candidates (one per school). Ms. Clinton is the first BUSPM student to receive this honor.

The 1st Annual Spain Academy of Podiatric Surgery Event was held at our anatomy lab June 9-11 lead by Dr Fernando Gil Racionero from the Spain Academy of Podiatric Surgery and facilitated by our own Hassan Azari, PhD and a cohort of BUSPM students. The comments were overwhelmingly positive and we plan to host this event annually.

Despite the anemic application pool for Schools of Podiatric Medicine nationally, I am pleased to report that BUSPM will reach or exceed its budgetary obligations for the coming year. This was not an easy task and required a monumental effort by our Director of Admissions, Dr Dave Fletcher, Isabel Ruiz, Admissions Coordinator, the admissions committee, faculty and staff. Kudos for their tireless efforts.

Due to the generosity of John Romans, CEO of Biomedix I am pleased to announce the donation of three non-invasive vascular diagnostic instruments (one for each Barry clinic), including training, to support BUSPM clinical faculty in evaluating patients while assisting in the education of our students.

All three of our Barry Foot and Ankle clinics have been refurbished and will facilitate our ability to service patients and augment faculty while teaching students and Residents. Your School has a fine reputation, and remains strong and vibrant.

Barry Strong!

Respectfully,

Rob
