Barry University’s Department of Student and Family Engagement recently hosted several events that brought members of the Barry community together, creating meaningful opportunities for connection, celebration, and leadership development. One of the highlights was the Taste of Home event which welcomed 150 members of the Barry community for an afternoon centered on culture and connection through food. Students enjoyed a variety of dishes representing different countries around the world. The event celebrated the diversity of the Barry community while encouraging students to learn more about one another’s cultures and traditions.
Another memorable gathering was the Black Excellence Soirée, an event that celebrated culture, leadership, and achievement while recognizing the important contributions of Black leaders across Barry and the South Florida community. Through inspiring remarks and the recognition of honorees, the soirée highlighted individuals whose leadership have made a lasting impact.

Leadership development was also a major focus during the Spring Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) Retreat, held February 27 – March 1 in Lake Placid, Florida. Thirty mentees, along with five student mentors and five faculty members, spent the weekend exploring the StrengthsFinder model and how to apply personal strengths in leadership settings.
In addition to these events, student involvement across campus continues to remain strong. As of February 2026, BarryU has 36 active registered clubs, and all student councils have successfully filled their Executive Board positions. These organizations continue to play an important role in campus life by creating opportunities for students to lead, collaborate, and stay engaged within the Barry community.
