Shereece-Alaienne Rennals is a senior at Barry University majoring in Pre-Professional Biology with a minor in Computer Science. Originally from the British Virgin Islands with strong Jamaican heritage, Shereece chose Barry because of its focus on community, service, leadership, and ethical responsibility.
On campus, Shereece stays actively involved. She has been a member of the Green Team for about two years, previously serving as Secretary and now as Social Media Manager, where she helps promote sustainability efforts and campus cleanups. She also volunteers with the Kitty Care Program, caring for Barry’s campus cats. These experiences sparked her interest in the Environmental Leadership Experience (ELE) and aligned closely with her passion for service and environmental responsibility.
In spring 2025, Shereece was selected as one of eight students to represent Barry University at ELE in Adrian, Michigan. During the trip, she took part in hands-on environmental projects such as planting more than 175 trees and learning about the effects of invasive species on local ecosystems. Being able to see and participate in real restoration work helped her understand how environmental care connects directly to social responsibility.
One of the most meaningful parts of ELE for Shereece was the sense of community. She formed strong friendships with the other students in her group, and learning and serving alongside them made the experience even more impactful. Spending time with the Adrian Dominican Sisters also left a lasting impression, as their dedication to service, justice, and reflection closely reflects Barry’s mission.
Shereece returned to Barry with a renewed sense of purpose, gratitude, and friendships. The Environmental Leadership Experience not only strengthened her passion for sustainability but also reminded her of the power of community and the importance of taking action.
