As reported by the South Florida Business Journal, universities across South Florida are seeing a surge in enrollment, driven by continued population growth and the region’s rise as a hub for business, healthcare, technology, and entrepreneurship. An influx of new residents relocating from other states is fueling demand for academic programs tied to real-world career pathways.
At the same time, South Florida is becoming more competitive as an education destination, with out-of-state universities exploring satellite campuses and local institutions attracting increased interest from both in-state and out-of-state students drawn to the region’s blend of opportunity and quality of life.
Among South Florida institutions, Barry University stood out for its significant year-over-year enrollment growth. In 2024, Barry University enrolled a total of 5,961 students, marking a 19 percent increase from 2023, when enrollment stood at 5,006 students. This growth reflects rising interest across multiple student segments and underscores the university’s expanding appeal.
When broken down by enrollment status, the growth becomes even more pronounced. Full-time enrollment increased by 13 percent, rising from 3,331 students in 2023 to 3,776 in 2024. This upward trend points to strong demand among traditional and degree-seeking students who are choosing to commit fully to their academic experience.
Part-time enrollment saw an even sharper rise. Barry University experienced a 30 percent increase in part-time students, growing from 1,675 in 2023 to 2,185 in 2024. This surge highlights the growing population of working professionals, adult learners, and career changers who are seeking flexible educational options while balancing work and personal responsibilities. It also reflects a broader shift in higher education, where institutions that offer adaptability and student-centered pathways are seeing increased engagement.
Barry University’s enrollment growth mirrors the broader dynamics shaping South Florida’s higher education landscape. As more people relocate to the region, students are looking for institutions that offer academic rigor, supportive learning environments, and clear connections to career outcomes.
