Barry University’s Nurse Anesthesiology (CRNA) program continues to raise the bar in nurse anesthesiology education showcasing leadership, knowledge, and community at two of the year’s most prestigious professional gatherings: the AANA Annual Congress in Nashville and the FANA Annual Meeting in Orlando.

From August 9–13, 2025, the CRNA team joined nurse anesthetists, residents, faculty, and healthcare partners from across the country at the AANA Annual Congress in Nashville, Tennessee. Held at the Music City Center, the event brought together thousands of professionals committed to advancing the science and practice of nurse anesthesiology.

At the Barry University booth, they connected with alumni, industry colleagues, and prospective students —engaging in conversations about our innovative curriculum, clinical excellence, and supportive HyFlex learning environment. Many of the program’s alumni stopped by to share their journeys while prospective students asked thoughtful questions about the curriculum, clinical training and more.

One of the conference highlights was the Anesthesia College Bowl, a high-energy quiz competition that tests clinical knowledge and teamwork. Barry students Yaniel Mendez and Leanna Torla represented our program with confidence and skill. Leanna’s team went on to win the championship, marking the second consecutive year a Barry-affiliated team has claimed the title. This achievement is a testament to the Barry CRNA program’s commitment to academic rigor, collaboration, and professional excellence.

Just weeks later, 50 Barry University nurse anesthesiology students traveled to Orlando for the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (FANA) Annual Meeting, held from October 3–5, 2025, at the JW Marriott Bonnet Creek Resort & Spa.

Barry’s presence was felt throughout the weekend. Students and faculty staffed the Barry University booth, engaging with practicing CRNAs, clinical coordinators, alumni, and aspiring students eager to learn more about pursuing their CRNA education in Florida.

At FANA’s Student College Bowl, Barry’s team members included: John Waters, Ryan Harris, Matthew Kraljev, Joseph Lucchetti, and Austin Disbro. The team advanced to the semifinals, reflecting the program’s emphasis on critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership, all hallmarks of a Barry nurse anesthetist.

Both conferences reaffirmed what makes Barry University’s CRNA program unique: a tight-knit, mission-driven community that thrives in every setting.

Barry University students learn from experienced faculty, train across diverse clinical sites, and graduate ready to lead in the operating room and beyond. Whether competing in national events or connecting with alumni across the country, they embody the university’s commitment to excellence and service.
