We’ve all been there scrolling through TikTok, convincing ourselves we’ll start that paper after just one more video. Before you know it, it’s midnight, the assignment is still untouched, and stress levels are through the roof. If procrastination has become your not-so-great college companion, you’re not alone and more importantly, you don’t have to tackle it on your own.
At Barry University, the Center for Academic Success & Advising (CASA) offers one-on-one coaching sessions to first and second-year students with Academic Success Coaches who are there to help you kick procrastination to the curb and keep your motivation high all semester long.
What Happens in an Academic Coaching Appointment?
When you meet with your CASA Coach at Barry you receive personalized advice and guidance. Coaches work with you to set goals, identify what’s getting in your way, whether it’s time management issues, perfectionism, burnout, or simply not knowing where to start. Together, you’ll create an action plan tailored to your personality, schedule, and goals.
Some things you might discuss:
- How to break big assignments into manageable chunks
- Creating daily or weekly routines that stick
- Finding your “why” when motivation dips
- Tools and tips to keep you on track
While your academic journey is unique, here are a few general tips that are recommended:
- Set small, achievable goals when dealing with academic or personal tasks.
- Incorporate small rewards for finishing tasks. This can look like watching an episode of your favorite show or soaking up some sun at the Penafort Pool.
- Create a designated study space that’s a “no distraction” zone.
Whether you’re battling procrastination, feeling stuck, or just want to level up your habits, CASA’s Academic Coaches are there to support you every step of the way. For more information visit their website.
