Barry University proudly honored its academic leaders at the 2025 Faculty Awards on April 16, with President Mike Allen and Provost Pablo Ortiz joining faculty and staff to celebrate the accomplishments of standout educators across disciplines.
Among the evening’s highlights was the Innovation in Teaching Award, presented to Dr. Hassan Azari, Associate Professor of Anatomy. As Director of the Anatomy Laboratory in the School of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Azari has reimagined the student learning experience by integrating traditional cadaveric dissection with virtual tools, clinical case studies, and medical imaging. His dynamic approach has consistently helped Barry students exceed national benchmarks on board exams.

Dr. Bartosz Fornal, Assistant Professor of Physics, received the prestigious Outstanding Faculty Award for his groundbreaking research in theoretical high-energy and astroparticle physics. Not only is Dr. Fornal pushing the boundaries of science, but he is also committed to mentoring students, offering them opportunities to co-author publications and present research on national platforms.

The Sister Jean O’Laughlin, OP Scholar’s Award was awarded to Dr. Mureen Thorne-Shaw, Associate Professor of Nursing. A seasoned Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Thorne-Shaw is dedicated to academic excellence, global health, and service. She shares her expertise at international conferences and guides Barry nursing students on transformative study abroad programs, blending skill development with humanitarian outreach.
