Faiyaz Mahmud Nirob’s journey from Bangladesh to Barry University in Miami is one filled with purpose, humility, and an untiring commitment to giving back. As a first-generation international student, Faiyaz arrived in the United States with the dream of making a difference, fueled by the extraordinary opportunity of a full-ride scholarship through the Stamps Scholars Program. Now, reflecting on his journey, Faiyaz feels profound gratitude—not only for his achievements but also for every opportunity that allows him to serve others. His goal is simple yet profound: to give back to the community in every way he can, using every avenue possible.

A sophomore double-majoring in Chemistry and Biology with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Faiyaz is a campus leader who brings his passion for service to life through his roles at Barry. As the Community Engagement Senator in the Student Government Association (SGA), he advocates for initiatives that foster inclusion and support for students from all backgrounds, ensuring that Barry’s campus is a welcoming space for everyone. As President of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Student Chapter, he has made it his mission to connect students with opportunities for growth and outreach, helping to create a vibrant and supportive academic community.

Faiyaz’s dedication to service goes beyond his leadership roles—he constantly seeks ways to contribute to communities in need. During spring break, he joined Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine on a medical mission trip to the Bahamas, where he helped provide much- needed healthcare to underserved communities. This experience strengthened his passion for healthcare and his commitment to support these communities. Eager to continue this path, Faiyaz is preparing to join the International Health Alliance this winter break for another medical mission, this time to the Dominican Republic, to bring care and compassion to those with limited access to healthcare. Each trip fuels his desire to make a meaningful impact on the world, and he looks forward to taking every opportunity to serve others.
Closer to home, Faiyaz regularly volunteers at Barry’s food pantry, helping students face food insecurity and building a supportive environment for his fellow students. He also serves as Vice President of the Muslim Student Association, fostering interfaith dialogue and supporting Muslim students in their campus journeys. In his role as Vice President of the AMP (Astro, Math, and Physics) Club, Faiyaz has organized engaging events and study groups, making STEM education exciting and accessible for his peers.

In addition to his service and leadership, Faiyaz has taken on roles that allow him to support and mentor other students academically. As a Chemistry and Physics Tutor and a Lab Teaching Assistant, he works tirelessly to help his classmates master difficult concepts, creating a positive and collaborative learning environment. These roles reflect his dedication to not only succeeding in himself but lifting others as well.
Despite his busy schedule, Faiyaz finds time to pursue hobbies that bring balance and creativity to his life. As a FIDE-titled chess player, he enjoys the strategic challenges of the game, while his love for table tennis adds a dash of energy to his days. Recently, he discovered a passion for pottery, finding peace and joy in shaping clay, which reminds him of the beauty in taking time to create and reflect.

Barry has connected him with mentors, friends, and a supportive community that has embraced his goals and values. Through his experiences at Barry, he has learned the true meaning of community service, understanding that his education is a privilege he is eager to share with others. He is deeply grateful for the support that has enabled him to pursue his dreams, and his response to that gratitude is a commitment to giving back—to serve, to lead, and to make a difference in every way possible.

Looking ahead, Faiyaz dreams of pursuing an MD-PhD to merge his love for scientific research with his passion for patient care. His vision is clear: to contribute to healthcare solutions that can uplift underserved communities, from his home country of Bangladesh to the wider global community. He envisions a career dedicated to service, research, and compassion, addressing pressing health challenges and bringing hope to those who need it most.
