As we celebrate Founders’ Week at Barry University, let’s remember the values of the Adrian Dominican Sisters that have profoundly shaped Barry University’s role in enriching lives through engagement with our community and the world.
Bishop Patrick Barry, Monsignor William Barry, and Mother Mary Gerald Barry, OP, envisioned a Catholic college for women in South Florida as a dedicated act of service to God. As part of the Adrian Dominican Congregation, they embraced a mission of responding to needs wherever they led, with a distinct calling toward education. From the beginning, Barry has been devoted to fostering intellectual, personal, ethical, spiritual, and social growth.
Both past and current students embody the values the Adrian Dominican Congregation strives to uphold. Through experiential and service-learning students are encouraged to not only learn but also act, and maintain our core commitments of knowledge and truth, inclusive community, social justice, and collaborative service.
Our Catholic tradition emphasizes the integration of study, reflection, and action. We study the world around us, reflect on how we can make a difference, and then act to create positive change.
Today, Barry University continues to be an educational and social inspiration, thanks to the enduring philosophy and vision of our founders the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
