Starting June 1, Dr. Pablo Ortiz is to take on the role as provost for Barry University and embark on a new chapter of his educational leadership career.

As chief academic officer, Dr. Ortiz will lead academic strategy and program development, advance faculty achievements, teaching, and research, and coordinate academic support teams to foster student-centered initiatives.

Dr. Ortiz has served as vice provost at Florida International University (FIU), where he assisted in attaining top national rankings, reinvigorated global initiatives and transformed the Biscayne Bay Campus. He most recently served as interim senior vice president of advancement and CEO of the FIU Foundation.

Dr. Ortiz’s accomplishments at FIU include enhancing facilities, expanding enrollments, contributing to an increase in the graduation rate of first-generation college students by 26%, and significantly elevating student persistence.

Dr. Ortiz also served as a leader in the Miami Dade County Public School system, where he received multiple Principal of the Year awards and notably spearheaded Miami Edison Senior High School’s ranking turnaround.

At Barry University, he will oversee academic programs at the main Miami campus, the School of Law in Orlando, and multiple graduate and doctoral offerings in the Bahamas and throughout Florida.

“Barry is not just a university; it is a dynamic community on the rise, driven by outstanding faculty, visionary leadership, and the unwavering commitment to shaping future leaders,” he said.
